If you are traveling in a group of 2-4 people, it is much more economical to split the fare of a rental car than to pay for numerous bus, plane, train, taxi, or boat fares & fees. Iranians have, for the most part, made great leaps and bounds in improving their driving etiquette. Although Iran has had a terrible reputation for aggressive driving and liberal use of car horns in the past, all metropolitan areas have become much more peaceful and law-abiding. Almost all major road signs and signals, especially those regarding major destinations, throughways, & cities all have English translations on the signs. Since English is the second most common language in Iran, you will easily be able to find your way no matter where you go.
What happens if the police pull me over?
If you have been driving outside of Iran, chances are used to obeying the rules, so the chances of you getting pulled over are actually quite small.
