In the 8th century, Qom was one of the centers of Shia Islam. In 816 Fāṭimah, the sister of the eighth Imam of the Twelver Shia Imam passed away in the town and was buried there. It became a place of pilgrimage in the 17th century when the Safavid rulers built a golden-domed shrine over Fatima’s tomb.

Thousands of Muslims travel to the city of Qom to honor and ask Fatima Masoumeh, for blessings. They stay for hours or days praying at the main mosque and beside her tomb. You will find this shrine very crowded most of the time and would be surprised by the stories of many miracles that have been recorded as taking place at this shrine.
